How to count your steps
Smartwatch
This is the easiest and most accurate way of counting your steps. However, if you already have a smart watch then you probably wouldn’t be reading this article! Read on for more ways to count steps, or have a look at TechRadar’s 2021 review of smartwatches here.
2. Your phone
If you have a smart phone you will be able to download an app that counts your steps (as long as you keep your phone with you when you’re walking). Both Apple and Google (for Android phones) have their own fitness apps which are the easiest option for step counting. Search your phone’s app store to find them. Apple’s is called ‘Health’, and Google’s is called ‘Google Fit’.

3. Distance
A google of what distance equates to 10,000 steps reveals that you’ll need to travel around 6-8km throughout the day (remember you’ll also gather steps at home as well).
One of our team tested this out, and found that she hit 10,000 steps at 7km.
If you’d rather measure distance as your daily target, try to go on a 5-7km walk each day.
