Photography Workshop and Exhibition
This month has seen a resurgence in the Photography Workshop – hosted by ambassador and volunteer Nick. After the success of last year’s workshop and the following exhibition, we, along with Nick, thought it would be an exciting opportunity to do it again!
This time round Nick highlights ‘Perceptions of Resilience’ the theme of the 10-week course. Nick writes that the aim is to get clients “reflecting on personal stories of overcoming challenges, finding strength him adversity and discovering beauty and hope in their everyday lives. This theme encourages participants to explore and document their unique perspectives, highlighting moments of resilience and triumph amidst their experiences of homelessness.
It is an opportunity for our clients to learn a new skill – without any of the fancy equipment, instead using their phones! Exploring a range of techniques and aspects of photography, from composition, lighting, and perspective, tailored to smartphone cameras.
The growth from our clients has been significant, not only with a camera, but also with themselves. These workshops act as a routine for our clients, where for some it is difficult to find regularly structure. The workshop ends with a trip to Painshill Park, with the 18th century garden being the perfect landscape to tie all these new skills together.
The opportunity to develop creativity with Nicks guidance has been much appreciated by our clients who have attended.
“The journey has been humbling, enjoying the learning of a new skill. I am looking forward to our work being on show at the SleepOut, and people there appreciating it!”
After the 10-week course we hosted an exhibition at Esher Rugby Club, as part of our SleepOut. Showcasing these photos and the successful development in this new skill.
It was a great success, playing on the cardboard box theme of the evening, using stacked boxes as the ‘frames’ for the images. An immensely proud moment for the team, Nick and of course our clients. The impact of Nicks guidance on the photographers has been impressive, with a range of interesting and creative pictures being taken and shown throughout the event
